Coronavirus: Natural England suspends all fieldwork

The nature regulator Natural England has temporarily cancelled all fieldwork undertaken by itself or its contractors for at least three weeks, according to a new announcement.

The announcement, made yesterday by Natural England’s interim chief executive Marian Spain, states that the suspension will include work that can be conducted by staff on their own as well as work which requires contact with others.

Regulatory works such as sites of special scientific interest consents, wildlife licensing, the Wildlife Incident Investigation Service, and planning and marine consents will be prioritised, to “try to ensure that we can continue to assist all those people, businesses and groups who need consents and permissions from Natural England so that they are able to continue to provide key services and goods to the nation”, she said.
