Why the EA is under pressure to reform its water monitoring regime

The Environment Agency’s water spot sampling monitoring regime has been widely trashed by agency insiders and green groups for being “useless” and a “meaningless waste of time”, frustrations that have been compounded by revelations made by ENDS that testing dropped by two thirds last year, while the number of times water companies discharged raw sewage into rivers and seas rose by more than a third.
