Green charities to receive over £400,000 after latest EA enforcement undertaking round

Fifteen businesses have agreed to pay penalties worth a total of over £400,000 to environmental charities in the latest Environment Agency update.

The EA has published the enforcement undertakings (EU), voluntary offers made by offenders, accepted by the agency between 1 June and 31 September this year. EUs are a legally binding agreement that is considered in cases where it is not in the public interest to prosecute, and the offer is intended to remedy the offence whilst supporting environmental charities.

Nine of the enforcement undertakings accepted in this period were self-reported (proactive) and given out for breaches of the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007 (as amended), according to the agency.
