RWE Generation’s UK Environment Team cover a diverse range of environmental issues, supporting our current portfolio of efficient gas and biomass power stations as well as driving the delivery of consents and permits to help deliver RWE’s decarbonisation plans. RWE has a clear ambition to be carbon neutral by 2040 and we are actively developing projects to decarbonise our generation fleet through the deployment of technologies such as carbon capture and storage, hydrogen conversion and battery storage. RWE is also actively developing green hydrogen production projects that will help other sectors decarbonise. These investments mean it is a great time to join our business to help us achieve our goals.
We are seeking to expand our team, and we are looking for consenting and permitting specialists to help deliver these exciting projects. As a member of the team, there would also be the opportunity to work on other aspects of the team’s work depending on your interests and development aspirations. As well as consenting and permitting new projects your role as a team member could include providing expert support to deliver compliance with environmental regulation, managing environmental risks and opportunities for our portfolio, driving improvements in environmental performance or engaging with external developments in environmental regulation in the broader sector.
Your responsibilities:
As an Environmental Consenting and Permitting Advisor your responsibilities would include:
Driving consenting and permitting work streams & activities to support development projects, working closely with other team members, project development teams and broader internal and external stakeholders.
Assessing the environmental considerations for proposed projects, for example emissions, air quality, habitats, water resources, water quality and climate change adaptation.
Management of external consultants to deliver environmental studies in support of consenting & permitting activities.
Providing expert support, advice and assessments to the business on environmental issues and requirements to support management of compliance and environmental risks.
Liaison with regulators, local planning authorities and other key stakeholders during the consenting and/or permitting process to ensure they are kept informed of the project in order to deliver the consent and/or permit required by the project.
About you:
We are interested in hearing from candidates with the following knowledge and skills:
A degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline.
Some experience in delivering planning consents and/or permits and a broad understanding of industrial environmental issues & the associated regulatory framework.
Strong organisation, co-ordination and stakeholder management skills combined with excellent team-working and communication skills.
Experience or knowledge of the power sector would be an advantage but is not essential; the role would provide the ability to develop your knowledge.
Your skills and experience could have been gained in the electricity sector, or equally from other industrial sectors, consultancy or regulatory bodies.
Occasional travel to various locations in the UK, and potentially overseas, may be required.
