Europe drops plans to compel carbon capture for coal and gas plants

The European Commission’s proposals to develop carbon capture and storage (CCS), including a Directive to ensure safe long-term geological storage, has been welcomed by industry. But it no longer plans to make CCS compulsory for power stations from 2020.
