Shipping sector shifts back towards ammonia refrigerants

"Not-in-kind" alternatives to ozone-depleting CFCs are making inroads into the refrigerated transport sector. The first cargo ships to use ammonia-based refrigeration recently went into operation, and tests suggest that they are more energy-efficient than the HCFC-22 systems they are competing with. Meanwhile, Calor Gas is shortly to launch a hydrocarbon refrigerant for the transport sector.
