Reform of Seveso Directive delayed by right-wing MEPs

A dinner-time ambush on 3 May by seven right-wing MEPs blocked the European Parliament's first reading of a proposal to amend the 1982 EC Directive on major accident hazards. The move may hold up Ministerial negotiations on the proposal and delay its implementation beyond the scheduled date of January 1996.
