Government holds fire on shipping waste

An attempt to introduce stricter rules on the provision of ships' waste reception facilities at ports and the use made of them by vessels was rejected by the Government as premature during the Committee stage of a Bill on marine pollution in the House of Lords on 14 June. But the issue now seems certain to be raised at the ministerial conference on the North Sea next year.
