Oil and gas producers baulk at methane abatement costs

Methane emissions from oil and gas production account for 3% of the UK's total, and could nearly double as new reserves are developed, according to a report for the Department of the Environment (DoE).1 However, the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA) insists that many measures to reduce its members' emissions would be less cost-effective than action in other sectors - notably landfill.
