Chemical Release Inventory arrives to lukewarm reception

Data on 1992 and 1993 emissions from processes under integrated pollution control (IPC) has, after a lengthy delay, been released by HM Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP).1 However, the Chemical Release Inventory (CRI) has been criticised for excluding emissions which fall outside the scope of IPC and for failing to explicitly provide release data for individual companies. Furthermore, it is unlikely to tally with the European Commission's current plans for a Polluting Emissions Register (PER).
