Toxin risks from algal blooms neglected by water industry

Potential health risks to consumers from toxic algal blooms in water supply reservoirs are being ignored by the water industry and its regulators, a meeting of scientists heard in September. With little guidance from the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), the industry is paying insufficient attention to developing and using methods for detecting potent toxins produced by many blue-green algae.
