Eco-labelling scheme in the melting-pot

The future of the EC's eco-labelling scheme will be up for grabs at the Environment Council on 4 October. The scheme has ground to a halt amidst wrangling within the European Commission which has left some officials keen to wash their hands of it. Some Member States and even environmentalists say that the scheme should be given more time to work - but industry groups have spotted an opportunity to push for changes which would give them a stronger voice in the policy-making process.
