New Royal Commission study on environmental standards, BPEO

A new study of the basis on which environmental quality standards are set is being planned by the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution (RCEP). The Commission is concerned that the inconsistent derivation of existing standards is preventing a fully integrated approach to pollution control - and that the Environment Bill will not broaden existing controls to permit a full evaluation of the "best practicable environmental option" (BPEO).
