Reports urge Government action on waste oil, scrap tyre recovery

Some form of levy is needed to maintain current levels of oil recovery in the face of rising costs for waste oil collection and combustion, according to a report commissioned by the Department of Trade and Industry from the National Environmental Technology Centre (NETCEN). A second study advocates legislation to stimulate markets for the use of old tyres, and points to US rules requiring the use of tyre crumb in road asphalt.1
