New recycling project exposes rift over funding in electronics industry

Seventeen electronics manufacturers have backed the recycling firm, the Mann Organisation, in a new industry group to promote "environmentally responsible" and "economically viable" recycling of used equipment. The Electronic Manufacturers Equipment Recycling Group (EMERG) has launched the project after clashing with another industry body over funding for recycling and the need to back this with legislation - and are focusing on high-value manufacturing waste and on used equipment from the commercial sector rather than from households.
