FoE urges switch from virgin wood products in major markets

The UK should reduce its consumption of primary wood and wood products by 65% by 2010 by consuming less and using secondary wood products or non-wood alternatives, according to a report from Friends of the Earth (FoE).1 The target is based on the prospective global availability of wood by 2010 and an analysis of how the deficit can be made up. FoE believes that wood alternatives could be promoted by a tax on virgin fibre.
