Food companies' faulty drains continue to cause water pollution

Three more food companies have been convicted of water pollution offences, continuing a trend which has seen the food and drink sector rise to second place in the national water pollution league (ENDS Report 232, pp 3-4 ). The latest offenders include two Dalgety subsidiaries - one of which escaped with a conditional discharge after a detergent leak killed 6,000 fish - and Kerry Foods. All three incidents were caused by defective drainage systems.
