DoE report spotlights dental mercury discharges

Dental practices are a significant source of mercury releases to the environment, according to a report commissioned by the Department of the Environment (DoE).1 Unregulated discharges of dental mercury release some seven tonnes of the metal each year - and only a handful of dentists use separators, mandatory in other European countries, which can cut discharges by over 95%.
