DTp backs M-way tolls, stalls on urban road pricing

Charging drivers to use roads in central London could significantly reduce the environmental impacts of traffic, according to a report for the Department of Transport (DTp).1 However, the DTp says it has no plans for urban road pricing and has rejected calls for legislation to allow councils to test their own schemes. At the same time, it is pushing ahead with a trial of motorway toll technology - despite widespread concern about its environmental impact.
