Lobbying continues for landfill tax exemptions

The Government has left the door ajar to last-minute pleas from waste producers for preferential treatment for some kinds of waste when the landfill tax is introduced next year. Possible candidates include contaminated soil and power station ash. Other issues still unresolved are whether tax should be paid on fly-tipped waste and whether councils will be able to recover their tax payments from households.
