Scotland gets groundwater strategy - but no abstraction controls

Scotland's river purification authorities (RPAs) have published a groundwater protection strategy which establishes a common framework for dealing with planning and pollution issues.1 A timely report on the current state of Scottish groundwaters has also highlighted the need for powers to control groundwater abstractions as well as threats posed by nitrate and industrial pollution.2
