Industry defends brominated flame retardants

Manufacturers of environmentally persistent brominated flame retardants will defend their products from calls for an international phase-out at a Paris Commission meeting in October. A key issue is whether the polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) currently under production are as environmentally inert as the manufacturers claim.
