FoE's "right to know" campaign trumps HMIP's release inventory

Friends of the Earth (FoE) has launched a campaign calling for improved access to environmental information, backed by an independent tribunal to hear appeals against refusals to disclose. The group has embarrassed HM Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) by making data from the Chemical Release Inventory (CRI) available on the Internet - a move likely to expose shortcomings in the CRI and to strengthen FoE's call for a more comprehensive database along the lines of the US Toxic Release Inventory (TRI).
