HMIPI and council on the spot over Dundee incinerator scandal

Allegations that an incinerator operated by Dundee District Council is failing to achieve adequate combustion of clinical waste have been lent new weight by a BBC documentary. The council, backed by a local Labour MP, sought to rubbish the allegations - but were eventually forced to call for an independent inquiry into the operation of the incinerator and nearby landfill. The move has left HM Industrial Pollution Inspectorate (HMIPI) looking increasingly isolated and ineffective.
