Animal renderer defies attempts to curb odour nuisance

Serious doubts about the enforceability of the air pollution controls introduced under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 have been raised by the continuing saga of an animal by-products rendering plant in Cheshire. Initial attempts to curb an odour nuisance from the plant by enforcing the terms of an authorisation have failed - and the company has now initiated its own proceedings which are blocking further enforcement efforts.
