Scottish Hydro claims success for energy labels

Scottish Hydro-Electric has claimed that the successful introduction into its shops of fridges and freezers bearing the EC energy label demonstrates that there is consumer demand for energy-efficient appliances. But the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Electrical Appliances (AMDEA) insists that there is no public interest in such products and is instead throwing its weight behind a simpler "stamp of approval" scheme.
