Spreading of sewage sludge on agricultural land should not lead to exceedences of tolerable daily intakes for dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs), according to a study for the Department of the Environment (DoE).1 However, the reassuring conclusions are based on limited knowledge of the environmental fate and toxicity of the compounds.
