Government criticised over lead, pesticides in drinking water

A House of Lords Committee has set itself on a collision course with the Government by recommending a 15-year national strategy to replace all lead plumbing in domestic premises, backed by grant-aid for low-income households. Following an inquiry into proposals to amend the 1980 EC Directive on drinking water quality, the Committee has also criticised attempts by the Government and agrochemicals industry to weaken the existing EC standard for pesticides.1
