Sludge study sets baseline for organics research

A review of organic compounds in sewage sludge funded by the water industry has concluded that PCBs and dioxins have the greatest potential to transfer to the human food chain.1 Although generally reassuring, it concludes that a great deal of research remains to be done on the occurrence and fate of organics likely to be present in sludge and their potential for entry into the food chain.
