Sewage study highlights crypto risk

Research commissioned by the Department of the Environment (DoE) has confirmed that sewage effluents can contaminate rivers used for drinking water supply with cryptosporidium.1 The study raises the question of whether treatment of effluents to inactivate the organism might be appropriate before discharge to water supply rivers.
