Storage of BSE cattle cull waste exempted from licensing

Regulations exempting huge quantities of bovine protein and tallow from waste management licensing were slipped out by the Government in mid-May.1 The move was a contingency measure to enable waste from cattle slaughtered as part of the Government's programme to eradicate BSE to be stored without a licence, but relied on powers which were intended to cover storage of much smaller quantities of waste for recycling.
