Bjerregaard pushes on with environmental liability

EC Environment Commissioner Ritt Bjerregaard is preparing to broach the subject of environmental liability once again with her fellow Commissioners. She will go armed with two new studies of the implications of an EC liability scheme - one of which suggests that there are good economic arguments for action at EC level. But businesses have already been reassured that any liability regime will not be retrospective, while banks will be protected against liability in their capacity as lenders.
