Sulphur trading plays second fiddle to BATNEEC

Little or no further action is needed for the UK to meet its international commitments to reduce emissions of sulphur dioxide, according to a Department of the Environment (DoE) consultation paper on a UK sulphur strategy.1 Plans for a formal SO2 emission trading scheme have been dropped - but operators may be permitted to buy or sell spare capacity in new emission quotas.
