DTp consults on Bill on marine oil pollution

A draft Bill to implement some of the outstanding recommendations of the Donaldson report on marine oil pollution was published by the Department of Transport (DTp) on 27 June. Its main provisions would enable the Government to recover the costs of the UK's oil spill response capability and salvage tugs from the shipping industry, and place the provision of ships' waste reception facilities in ports on a statutory footing. The DTp has also announced that three powerful salvage tugs will be stationed around the coast next winter - still well short of the recommendations of the Donaldson report.
