Scottish effluent survey pinpoints oestrogenic risks

Thirteen locations where effluent discharges containing oestrogenic detergents and plasticisers may be affecting wildlife have been identified by a survey by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).1 The results suggest that extensive substitution or improved effluent treatment may be needed to render many discharges safe.
