Misleading claims proliferate in halon alternatives market

Almost three years after the use of halons in new fire extinguishing systems was banned in developed countries, UK airlines face a scramble to secure long-term supplies unless they begin stockpiling material immediately. Meanwhile, in the battle for market share among alternatives to halons, producers of HFCs are distorting their role as powerful greenhouse gases and even portraying them as "environmentally friendly".
