B&Q takes initiative on VOCs with solvent labels for paints

B&Q is introducing a new labelling system which will classify all paint products sold in its stores by their solvent content. The project will challenge other DIY stores to improve the quality of environmental information, and may achieve a significant reduction in emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from decorative paints. But it also threatens to overshadow the EC eco-labelling scheme at a time when several UK paint producers have just committed themselves to the scheme.
