Air quality, energy efficiency boosted by Budget

The biggest package to date of fiscal measures to reduce air pollution from vehicles was unveiled by the Chancellor in his Budget statement on 26 November - although it was greeted with industry scepticism about the market incentive provided by the reduced rate of duty on low-sulphur diesel and its likely environmental benefits. Support for energy efficiency also recovered modestly, but the Environment Agency has had its grant-in-aid cut.
