Doubts grow over benefits of catalytic converters

Concern is mounting among local authorities that catalytic converters are failing to deliver the promised improvements in air quality. The worries have been compounded by preliminary findings in Edinburgh which suggest that traffic management - a key strand in the Government's air quality strategy - may actually make air pollution worse.
