£7,500 fine for close shave after chemicals delivery mix-up

Firefighting equipment manufacturer Angus Fire Armour has been fined £7,500 after sloppy procedures led to a tanker-load of concentrated sulphuric acid being emptied into a storage tank containing an organic chemical. The resulting chemical reaction threatened a serious release or explosion, and the factory and nearby houses were evacuated for over 24 hours.
