Coal lobby fights back against emission constraints

The coal industry has mounted an attack on the spread of gas-fired power generation, integrated pollution control (IPC) emission limits on power stations, and National Power's plans to displace coal at its Drax station with petroleum coke. Coal producers are also coming forward with plans for new "clean coal" power stations and coal washing processes in a bid to prevent a dramatic collapse in demand for UK coal in the next three to four years.
