Subsidy "essential" to kick-start electronics recycling

The cost of collecting waste electrical and electronic equipment makes some form of subsidy essential for large-scale collection schemes, according to a report on a 15-month trial in the Edinburgh and Lothian region.1 The report concludes that some equipment, such as televisions and hi-fis, has no recycling value and should be incinerated or stored in homes until recycling technology is developed.
