Landfill faces "leap to utopia" with flushing bioreactors

The Government has been urging the landfill industry to move towards "flushing bioreactors" - but operators are now beginning to realise that they are being asked to make a huge leap by sanctioning major investments in redesigning landfills around a still unproven concept. Initial estimates suggest that the extra cost of constructing and running bioreactors will range from £15-33 per tonne - and one firm has suggested figures of up to £62 per tonne.
