Wool scourers phase out APEs

Major wool scouring companies have phased out their discharges of alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEs), the oestrogenic detergents which cause sex changes in fish. The switch to alternative products has cost much less than they expected and caused no deterioration in product quality.
