Self-financing plan casts new pall over EC eco-labelling scheme

Doubts about the long-term future of the EC eco-labelling scheme have been reinforced by a European Commission proposal to end all EC funding for the scheme by 2002. The scheme also continues to face a lack of co-operation from some industry sectors. However, progress was made in April towards setting criteria for seven new product groups, and the number of labels awarded to products is continuing to grow.
