Row over combustion plant spells trouble for acidification plan

Drastic reductions in emissions of acid gases have been proposed by the European Commission in the latest draft revision of the 1988 EC Directive on large combustion plant. Member States have attacked the proposals as unrealistic - casting doubt on the prospects for the Commission's wider strategy for combatting acidification.
