UK faces legal action on phosphate discharges

The Government is facing legal action from the European Commission for failing to introduce controls on phosphate discharges to freshwaters. Ireland is already being pursued for failing to set water quality objectives (WQOs) for phosphate - and similar action against the UK may follow.
