Lords seek changes to EC proposal on water resources

Measures to promote more sustainable use of water and to enhance protection of aquatic wildlife should be incorporated in the draft EC Directive on water resources, according to a report by the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Communities.1 The report is also critical of a European Commission proposal that water quality objectives which will determine the costs of the Directive should be set by an unaccountable committee of officials after the legislation is adopted.
