Ministers reject incineration bids for BSE cull waste

The Government has backed off from plans for a big network of new incinerators to dispose of waste from the Over Thirty Month Scheme (OTMS) cattle cull. Instead, it is pressing ahead with negotiations to burn rendered animal waste as fuel - either in rendering plants directly or, resurrecting earlier plans, in place of coal in power stations. Meanwhile, the Environment Agency has issued new guidance on combustion of MBM from the cull.
