Treasury off on wrong foot with new Audit Committee

The Treasury has blotted its copybook with the new House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee by declining to give evidence on last November's pre-Budget report. At the Committee's first public session in January, Environment Ministers insisted that the greening of Whitehall is gathering pace - but their evidence also raised doubts about whether their commitment to environmental appraisal of policies extends to the crucial comprehensive spending review.
